Julie originally opened her modest shop on historic Duval Street and built a following that has lasted for over two decades. She now specializes in custom-designed and hand-painted canvases, ecclesiastic designs, rugs, belts, shoes, and eclectic furniture. Today, her studio is hidden in the back of her boutique, Island Needlework, on the ground floor of a vintage Conch house built just before the Civil War.

In 1996, Julie was invited to the prestigious Woodlawn Plantation near Mount Vernon, Virginia, a show house of needlepoint designs. A year later, she was asked to design a special ornament for the 1997 White House Christmas tree. She has been featured in publications including Colonial Homes and Stitcher's World magazine.
